This page provides summary information about contracts undertaken by DM Field Ltd, the most recent at the top of the page.
Leicestershire Health Informatics Service
Current
Dave's latest full-time contract is with the NHS, developing a content-managed site for Leicestershire County Primary Care Trust.
NEXT plc
March 2008
This very neat little contract with NEXT found Dave working on a web-based application to support their Supplier Code of Practice and audit activites.
Dave's test planning and quality assurance skills were employed to great effect in this demanding environment. A very pleasant and rewarding contract, if a little short!
Redpoint Climbing Centre
June 2007 - ongoing!
Redpoint Climbing Centre is
a brand-new indoor climbing facility in Birmingham. As a keen climber, Dave has been personally involved in the project from
the start, and as well as lending a helping hand with the actual build of the place, has also provided a content-managed
website (based on the same home-grown engine used for Bedworth Lib Dems and
Nuneaton Lib Dems). In addition, there's a membership database, point-of-sale software,
and a range of back-office utilities. The desktop applications and the website communicate with each other via a web service -
allowing visiting climbers to pre-register via the website, and cut down on the time they spend in reception filling in forms!
Prior to opening, the website was instrumental in generating a large membership base upon which to launch the centre. During this "wait" period (while the centre was being built!), the site regularly exceeded its
bandwidth allocation month-on-month, such was the climbing community interest in the project.
Since opening at beginning of February 2008, and the software and website have both performed excellently, gaining praise from
public, staff and management alike.
Currently, Dave is updating the content management engine behind this site, and giving it a design facelift, in order to
continue to support the Redpoint vision. Click here for a sneak preview of the new design!
Firecheck Services
February 2008
Another freelance collaboration with Diablo, this time developing an online training application for Firecheck Services. This job saw Dave providing user sign-up and PayPal integration software to support Diablo's website design skills.
Travelsphere, Market Harborough
July 2007 - February 2008
Dave was one of two contractors taken on to completely re-develop Travelsphere's three brand websites:
Travelsphere,
Just You and
Page and Moy.
The job was successfully delivered to tight timescales and high quality standards. The Content Management
side of the project was in use with internal users within two weeks of the project's start!
In addition, we then went on to add further value to the sites, with the development of "community" content
areas within each of the sites and XML feeds of tour information to third-party consumers on a subscription basis.
Nuneaton Liberal Democrats
July 2007
Building on (and enhancing the functions within) the successful Bedworth Liberal Democrats website, this site was delivered for Nuneaton Liberal Democrats by-election.
This version of Dave's content management engine adds better editing facilities for users, a broader range of editable content, and social networking/bookmarking facilities.
Diablo Design and Multimedia
May 2007
Developing content-management facilities for one of Diablo's web clients.
Johnston Press, Peterborough
November 2006 - March 2007
Integrating The Scotsman's 1-million-mails-per-month subscription email services into the core JP Newsletters app that he developed earlier this year, and developing RSS feeds for JP's range of sites.
Bedworth Liberal Democrats
December 2006
When Dave's wife (and company secretary) Alice declared her intention to stand as a candidate in a local by-election, there was one obvious thing that Dave
could contribute to her campaign - a website!
This neat, clean little site has a simple content management system behind it, and delivers clean, accessible, standards-compliant content with a minimum of fuss.
Of course, being a by-election, timescales were very short - Dave built the entire site, database and content management system during his two weeks off at Christmas!
Solutions2, Kenilworth
July - October 2006
Dave was contracted to lead development of a Symbol
news website for children with learning difficulties and special educational needs.
Working for Solutions2 in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, Dave Field provided
design leadership, mentoring and hands-on development skills in ASP.NET 2, VB.NET and MySQL.
Tight timescales and budgetary requirements will posed interesting additional
challenges, as did the discovered need to re-vamp much of the in-house CMS along the way. The finished site is really nice, and does the job it was specified to do really well: www.askability.org.uk.
All in all, a piece of work to be proud of.
Johnston Press, Peterborough
March - May 2006
Johnston Press plc is the 2nd biggest local newspaper publisher in the UK, and a major force on the internet. The company publishes hundreds of local newspapers and web sites, produced by teams of local experts. They are dedicated to delivering comprehensive local news and information, that both informs and reflects the important issues of the communities they serve.
The contract called for the design and development of an email newsletters subscription package, suitable for rollout across the entire range of Johnston Press's local newspaper websites.
The project was a great success, with Dave Field's technical abilities, commitment to quality and attention to detail producing an excellent application within the expected timescale. Handover to Johnston Press's internal software team was eased by clear, high quality technical documentation and a deployment sample application.
In the course of this project, Dave also provided a standardised approach to developing Templated Server Controls which was adopted by the internal software team.
